Structural Designer

A fantasic opportunity has arisen for a Structural Designer to join our successful speciality plant
based in Lowestoft. Smurfit Kappa Saxon is a sheet plant, producing conventional corrugated packaging and specialising
in short run high quality litho laminatng, especially within the craft brewery sector.
The main focus of the role is structural design lead from client briefs, these are delivered by the sales
team and on occasion directly from the client. The role will also include involvement in the
processing of artworks.

Responsibilities & Challenges

 Produce CAD drawings from previously manufactured samples.
 Design new packaging around client product to meet the needs of the brief.
 Produce samples for approval.
 Generate relevant documentation for estimating / Sales teams
 Identify possible changes to existing packaging to aid packing & or production efficiencies
 Take direct ownership of tasks by liaising with clients & colleagues to gain information and
keep them informed of progress
 Ensure paperwork & databases are kept up to date
 Generate tracings for use in manufacturer.
 Produce CAD drawings for the use in sending of artwork
 Liaising with clients regarding artwork requirements (not generating artwork / graphics) &
processing proofs through to approval via our third party studios.
Key Competencies/Qualifications/Requirements
To be considered for the role you will need structural design experience ideally in the corrugated
packaging sector.
 Computer literate with knowledge of packaging based CAD software Illustrator & Microsoft
office applications
 Self-motivated with an eye for problem solving, and attention to detail.
 The ability to follow a design brief and adapt as necessary
 Able to thrive in a fast paced fluid environment & work to deadlines.
 Great communication skills
 A basic understanding of Cutting tools & printing plates
 A basic understanding of both the Flexographic & lithographic printing process.
 Willing and able to build a rapport with key personnel, customers and shop floor personnel
