Along with fellow Smurfit Kappa employees from Smurfit Kappa Diss and Smurfit Kappa Norwich, some of the Saxon Packaging team donned their Smurfit Kappa racing attire (along with smurf name) and embraced a muddy, wet, cold and challenging 6 mile obstacle course in support of East Anglian Air Ambulance.
This year, the event took place on one day only and participants chose between a 6 or 10 mile mud run with up to 35 obstacles. A combined effort of running, crawling, climbing and scrambling was required to cross the finish line.
There was a mixture of abilities with semi-professional runners to those who never exercise. As soon as the race started the SmurFIT team split into smaller groups based on fitness levels and ability but all team members proudly completed the course.
“It was the first obstacle course I have ever completed, I really enjoyed myself and was great to meet fellow Smurfit Kappa employees” says Suzy, Marketing Executive.
“Thoroughly enjoyed it, completely different to my usual Kuksool training and looking forward to doing the 10 mile course next year.” Ben, Technical and Design Manager.
“Being a keen footballer this was definitely a change to my normal fitness activity. I found some of the obstacles a real challenge and enjoyed working as a team to overcome them. It was very muddy and I have several cuts and bruises as trophies from the day but all in all – I really enjoyed myself.” James, Chief Engineer.
