Although at first glance you might think the location to be a bit far to the east, Lowestoft seems to be a hot-bed for packaging innovation, thanks to the work of Saxon Packaging! With a little over £1.5 million invested in the last 18 months, Saxon Packaging has significantly expanded its production capabilities and capacity to cater for a growing, nationwide customer base. Celebrating 30 years in business in 2016, this privately owned business is one of the largest packaging manufacturers in the Suffolk and Norfolk region.
A lot of the success is thanks to ongoing investment in state-of-the-art equipment. Over the last few years, Saxon Packaging has invested significantly, including the installation of a Bobst Visioncut flat bed die-cutter in 2014 and most recently, a Lamina Blackline 1620 FA 1600/800 full sheet laminator. The new laminator can apply any type of litho printed top sheet (complete with foil and visual effects) onto a sheet of single or double-face corrugated board, giving the final box the ultimate in terms of both print quality and strength.
Saxon Packaging is able to produce the highest quality, litho-laminated packaging for a wide range of business needs and is increasingly focusing on the spirits and gift markets. Thanks to the installation of the Lamina machine, the company has significantly increased the volume it can produce of this type of work. Working with leading design agencies and marketing departments, this box manufacturer can undertake the most intricate styles of pack work, with some really eye-catching visual effects thanks to the latest coatings and foiling techniques. Die-cutting interesting shapes into the boxes and applying exceptional graphics helps brands get stand-out shelf appearance. “We are working closely with designers as well as brand owners in the spirits and gift markets, creating some really outstanding pack designs,” says Mike Impson, Sales Manager. “Using some exciting foiling and varnished solutions, we can really help a product stand out in the ever crowded consumer marketplace.”
Who are Saxon Packaging?
The company started off in a single industrial unit in the Suffolk sea-side town of Lowestoft and focused on making simple corrugated boxes. As its customer base grew, the company installed various pieces of box making equipment and expanded from one, to two, then three, four and now eight units on the same industrial park. As the range of equipment grew, so did the style of boxes they could make. “At Saxon Packaging our vision is to lead the way as an independent corrugated packaging manufacturer, providing an overall quality driven packaging solution that other manufacturers aspire to,” explains Mike.
“Our mission is to design, manufacture and deliver a wide range of corrugated products in a manner that meets and exceeds our customers’ expectations and requirements,” concludes Impson. “The way in which we achieve this allows us to remain profitable but also economical, enabling us to provide our customers with innovative and reliable packaging solutions. We have invested heavily over the last 18 months and we are excited about what lies ahead. Investment will continue over the coming months as we look to increase throughput in other key areas of our business. ”
