Lithographic (litho) printing is the premium print option giving the same glossy HD photographic quality that is seen in magazines. The packaging industry has seen an increase in popularity of the lithographic print finish due to its versatility and ability to transform packaging visually. Using up to eight colours, plus a variety of finishes to select from, this is the ultimate printing process to show-off and endorse your packaging, product and brand. Digital printing is unlike other commercial methods that use printing plates and presses, digital printing prints directly from the digital artwork file onto the chosen substrate. It is an ideal solution to produce short print runs economically and with a fast turnaround. At Saxon Packaging most of our customers require larger print runs so we often find those initially looking for digital printing solution proceed with litho printings as it’s more cost effective.
Flexographic printing is the more basic form of printing and is widely used throughout the packaging industry. It can be used for simple print requirements such as a company name and logo or a ‘FRAGILE – HANDLE WITH CARE’ message but can also be used to create eye catching designs that come to life on the chosen substrate.
Choose from 1 – 3 colours for standard flexo-printing, or enhance even further by opting for HQPP (High Quality Post Print) or pre-print which allows you to choose up to 5 colours and help make your packaging stand apart from the rest. For examples of flexo printed packaging click here.
Silk screen printing is a slower form of quality printing where ink is pressed through a screen onto a number of substrates; for the packaging industry we generally work with all grades of fluted cardboard and plastics. Traditionally used for lower volumes where clean, sharp and concise print is required. Screen printing can offer a cost effective solution when the volume required doesn’t justify switching to HQPP, pre-print or lithographic printing.
